What a difference a year makes!

Sean, Micheal, Chris & Susan --February 2016

Before deciding to produce and perform my self-penned music....I wondered if the time to do so had passed me by. Then, I saw a post on social media that talked about how 'time' is a social construct...and that.....big things can happen in short time frames. (a degree in 4 years, a baby in 9 months.....you know how it goes) It encouraged me to proceed. I'm glad I took the leap!

One year ago this week.....Micheal McIsaac (aka 'Jack' if you are from Stephenville) introduced me to Chris Birkett and Sean Patrick Armstrong-each of whom, would prove instrumental in the year that followed. I'd like to reflect on some of the highlights of this year and sit in the gratitude of these learning experiences......

  • Recording and arranging with a multi-award winning producer and master songwriter.

  • Radio Interview with local legend Dynamite Don Gibbon of CFSX radio and sharing my first 3 songs over the air. I grew up listening to this local station. It would be closed shortly after my interview. My timing it seems, was perfect.

  • Performing in both Kippens (Lucy's Bar August 2016) and Stephenville (Razoolies February 2017).

  • Travelling to Montserrat and observing the recording of a new record and film about UK punk rocker, John Otway. I would talk more about this...but, I think my last post filled you in! It was here that my sense of self as a 'musical artist' began to take shape.

  • Meeting, singing & staying with an original back up singer of Air Studios Montserrat --Michelle Graham --who I now call my friend! (...and did I ever really thank Si Ward for all his guidance on that trip? He's another new friend!) I've met a lot of great people this year....and while I'd like to name them all.......I have to save some info for future posts!

  • Being invited to participate in the Rockin Winter Blues Series in Toronto in aide of Camp Ooch....(childrens camp for children affected by cancer) with Ghost in the Machine Productions. This has helped me build more comfort on the stage. Opening for Wild T and the Spirit, Charlie Jacobson, Julie McClean, Sam Taylor, Frank Cosentino, and sharing the stage with so many successful musicians was & continues to be, exciting!

  • Then there are the photography and videography experiences!!!! WOW....I sure didn't expect this. In Montserrat, I was photographed by Christina Jansen (Mohammad Ali's photographer and friend: www.cjansenphotography.com ) and ...for my first show - John Rowlands (too many rock legends to mention....so..you'll have to check him out for yourself: http://www.rocknrowlands.com ) Video/Journalist Steve Barker (Associated Press/ BBC /film director) captured me playing Sir George Martin's classical guitar on his front porch (Olveston House). That's not to mention Daraious Billimoria (DaraiousPhotography), Dave Wood, Hannele Lahti, Micheal McIsaac and others that have been so helpful. To say I am honoured is an understatement.

I'm not sure which of these items were on my bucket list....but it's fair to say I've 'checked' off a few things! :-) I look forward to what the next 12 months will bring. On that note, I think it might be time to add the 'upcoming shows' page to this site. Exciting things are in the works!!

If I've learned anything....it is that the power of intention...is a very 'real' thing! Try it!!

Susan
